T-Shirts

Steve Burrall, one of our travelers, has arranged to have commemorative t-shirts made. We will take 9 as gifts for our Cuban hosts, and there will also be a total of 51 others for sale at $20 each among our travelers and others from the go community. The whole t-shirt project will run at cost.

The design is below:

They will come in S, M, L, & XL sizes.

If you should want one, please write directly to Steven Burrall [mailto:sburrall@comcast.net] to make arrangements.

Last Call

The trip is proceeding. If you have not yet been in touch but are interested in making it, please write goincuba@gmail.com right away. If you have not already gotten trip details from me, say so, and I will provide them. I do not have a hard and fast deadline to give you; but it is important we get your decision as soon as possible and that you be ready to make payment promptly. The longer you wait to decide, the harder it will be to add you in, though we will certainly try.

More on Status

We're still looking to complete the 15 traveler minimum. There are a number of people still thinking about it, and I'm hopeful we'll get enough there to make it ago. And, of course, there may still be additional prospects I haven't yet heard from. If we haven't at least 15 committed by early December, it's questionable whether we can go. If you're interested and I haven't heard from you yet, please write me at goincuba@gmail.com.

Sharing a Room on the Trip

One person considering the trip has said he'd be interested in sharing a room with another traveler. Seems a natural idea. If this should be of interest to you, let me know; and I'll see what I can do to help put people who want to explore this in touch with one another.

Current Status

Some have asked about whether there is a deadline for decisions. There is none set right now. We need a minimum of 15 to make the trip happen, and we are approaching that at the moment. Once we have 15 who definitely are planning to go, we will begin completing arrangements. The next decision point would be at 25 travelers. 25 is the maximum travelers we can accommodate without adding another guide. If we get more than 25 who want to come, we will have to evaluate whether we will have enough to add a 2nd guide.

If we've been in contact, but you have decided not to come; it would be helpful to me for you to tell me that. If you're gotten information and haven't been back in touch, it would be helpful to let me know where you stand and when you might reach a decision.

Thanks.

Popularity of Go in Cuba

Sr. Torres with the Academia Cubana de Go sent me some information on the popularity of go in Cuba:

"In Cuba we have 435 players Go officially,  although in Cuba more than 2000 people know go. The Go is practiced in all  provinces. We have 34 players Dan Category . Many Cuban players will participate in the Exchange..." (Excuse the rough translation of his Spanish. He and I must use Google translate to write back and forth as neither is proficient in the others language.)

Details Now Available

I now have trip details available to provide those interested. Please email me at goincuba@gmail.com if you'd like to have them.
